 SYTHL League Year-End Tournament

All tournaments will follow established SYTHL Guidelines for period and penalty length.

Team Requirements:
  • All tournament fees need to be paid by league check to the host rink, personal checks will not be accepted (per SYTHL bylaws) - tournament fees are pending, they will be posted as soon as they have been finalized.
  • This is considered a league weekend, therefore if a team qualifies for the tournament, that team is expected to attend.
  • Failure to attend/participate in the year-end tournament can result in a fine of $1,000 plus the cost of the entry fee of the tournament for the hosting organization. If these are not paid the team/organization will not be in good standing and will not be allowed to declare teams in SYTHL or have voting privileges next season until monies are paid.

Tournament Format:
Pool (Round Robin) Play
Tournament Points will be awarded as follows:
Game Win - 2 points          Game Tie - 1 point          Game Loss - 0 point

Game #2:   2nd seed @ 1st seed

Reseed after pool (round robin) play:
Consolation Game:   4th seed @ 3rd seed
Championship Game:   2nd seed @ 1st seed

The teams will be seeded based upon final league standings.
For reseeding after pool play during the tournament, the following tiebreaker format will be utilized.

1. Head to head
2. Least allowed goals
3. Least penalties
4. Goal differential (If a game is forfeited, the goal differential for that game will equal the largest of the season. This would minimize the effect if a team forfeited.)
5. Coin flip

  • The higher seeded teams in each game will be the home team and will wear light-colored jerseys and socks.
  • The lower seeded teams in each game will be the visiting team and will wear dark-colored jerseys and socks.
  • Teams will play no more than 2 games per day.
  • Only the Championship Games will be played to a final conclusion. All other games may end in a tie.

Championship Game Tiebreaker:

In the event of a tie at the end of regulation play, the following procedures will be used to determine a winner:

  • 1st: 4-on-4 OVERTIME: - A 5 minute 4-on-4 stop clock “sudden victory” overtime.
  • 2nd: SHOOT-OUT 3 on 3: - If the game is not decided in the 5 minute overtime period, a shoot-out with 3 players from each team will be conducted. The winner is the team with the highest score out of 3 shooters. Visiting team shoots first.
  • 3rd: SHOOT-OUT 1 on 1: - If the game is not decided in the 3-on-3 shootout, teams will alternate using different players. The home team gets the last shot. If in any round of 1 on 1, either team scores and the other team does not, the team that scored is declared the winner.
  • In either shoot out, no player can shoot twice unless all available skaters have participated.

PLEASE NOTE:  Year-End Tournaments do not determine season Champions or determine who wins an SYTHL banner. Season First Place winners of the SYTHL banners are determined by placement after league play ends.  Year-End Tournaments are an additional tournament after league play.
